PARKING

We encourage visitors to use public transportation to get around Washington, DC, but for those of you who are within driving distance of the city, here is some useful information on where to find parking. A comprehensive resource for all transportation options in Washington, DC, godcgo.com includes lots of useful information on parking. Another helpful tool is SpotHero, an on-demand parking app that helps drivers find parking, compare discounted rates and reserve a spot for up to 50% off with convenient garages, lots & valet stands in Washington, DC. In addition, dcparking.org offers various parking tips by neighborhood.

There are a number of parking garages around the city, as well as metered spots. Many downtown office buildings have parking garages on site or close by. These lots generally cost $10-20, but they may fill up. Metered parking is available on most downtown streets, but many streets have rush hour restrictions in place between 7 and 9:30 AM, and 4 and 6:30 PM. "No Parking" restrictions are strictly enforced, and violators may find their cars towed or may face fines up to $100.

If you wish to park at a suburban Metro station and ride Metro into the city, you can expect to pay $3.25-$5.  SmarTrip cards are the only form of payment accepted at most Metro parking garages (to view Metro parking garages that accept credit cards, click here) and are available at most commuter stations. The SmarTrip card costs $10, but includes $5 value loaded. Rates vary by station; check wmata.com for details about the station you're traveling from.

Rideshare Services:
Uber & Lyft are the two dominant services in DC that take you anywhere in the city through requests on their apps. Both apps are free and allow you to request a ride, plug-in an address prior to pick-up, watch your driver navigate to your location on a map, and submit ratings with an electronic payment at the end of your ride. While both companies offer a range of more expensive, premium rides in luxury SUVs and limos, a basic ride will cost you about the same in Lyft as it will in UberX. While costs vary city-to-city for Uber and Lyft, rides are generally $1 to start, $1.50/mile, and $0.25/min. Since DC tends to have higher ride-demand, prices might be slightly more expensive. For more information on each service, please click here for Uber, and here for Lyft.
