Speaker Bio
Elizabeth (Issie) Karan focuses on health care advocacy and legal work. She serves as General Counsel for the Hemophilia Alliance. She founded the Karan Legal Group PLLC in 2020 to serve nonprofit health care providers, specializing in underserved patient populations including entities focused on community and reproductive health and infectious disease. She founded Artemis Policy Group with Johanna Gray and Ellen Riker shortly thereafter. She came to Washington, D.C., as a Winston Health Policy Fellow, during which she learned firsthand the process of drafting and developing federal legislation. She then spent six years working at Feldesman Tucker Leifer and Fidell LLP in Washington, D.C. Her expertise is compliance, transactional arrangements, and legislative and administrative advocacy with a focus on 340B, federal grants, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and reimbursement issues. She earned her J.D. and Master of Public Health from the University of Minnesota and her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is admitted to practice law in D.C. and Minnesota.
